| After much searching for
products to bond plastics, we found a compound that not only works quickly,
but holds like a real plastic adhesive should.
This products works on any ABS
plastic part; toys, cartop carriers, etc. Most ABS products have the
type of material they are made from molded in a non-visible area somewhere
on the part. Dries a creamy tan color.
The kit has 2 components and
mixes like epoxy. The adhesive comes in a re-sealable syringe tube for easy
use. Start by cleaning the repair area by wiping down both surfaces with
alcohol, mix the adhesive, connect the parts and hold in place for several
minutes. Works in 30 minutes, but bonds to full strength overnight. We tried
everything else - the powder/liquid combos holds for a while then quits.
This stuff WORKS!
For an extra-strong
repair, you can add some thin fiberglass mat to the surface (usually on the
non-visible side). Make your initial repair and let it cure.
Next, clean the surface off with alcohol and let it dry. Mix up some
of the ABS repair product and coat the surface. Quickly lay your
fiberglass over the mix and flatten it down with a plastic squeegee (like
one you would use for Bondo type body repair.
